More than 75 people came together for a major celebration to mark the biggest moment in Wetherby in Support of the Elderly’s (WiSE) history. WiSE held a gala dinner to recognise the contribution of its army of incredible volunteers- who were formally granted The Queen’s Award at the event. A much-loved community café welcomed hundreds of customers to celebrate a decade serving of people throughout Wetherby and its surrounding villages. Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) originally set up its WiSE Owl Café as a social hub for older residents- but the facility has since developed into a thriving café offering a safe space to meet for people of all ages three days a week. WiSE wants runners and fundraisers to help plug shortfall
A Wetherby charity facing a £30,000 funding shortfall wants more runners to follow its boss’s footsteps by pounding the streets this year in a bid to raise vital cash. Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) needs money to cover the rising costs of its popular activities and events programme. Wetherby woman’s fashion show thank you for charity’s sight loss support
A Wetherby woman has hit the catwalk to thank Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) for support they gave her at a time when she lost her sight. Marie Dempsey’s eyesight deteriorated gradually over several years until she was eventually registered blind – but still attended weekly exercise classes staged by WiSE. She’s now repaid WiSE for their support by becoming a model at a fashion show fundraiser as a thank you for the help they gave her in beating feelings of isolation.
